How is a healthy weight range worked out?

The most common method takes the healthy BMI band (18.5–24.9) and multiplies it by your height in metres squared. That gives a range rather than a single number, which is more realistic — healthy bodies come in different shapes.

What is the Devine formula?

The Devine formula (1974) was originally created to help calculate medication doses. It gives a single “ideal body weight” figure based on height and sex. It’s a useful reference point but the BMI range is generally more practical for everyday goals.
