Why head circumference is measured
In the first two years, head circumference reflects brain growth. Clinicians plot it at routine checks to make sure it’s tracking a healthy curve. As with weight and length, the trend matters more than a single reading.
How it’s measured
A soft tape is placed around the widest part of the head — above the eyebrows and ears and around the back. Take the largest of a couple of readings for accuracy.
