What is a growth percentile?

A percentile compares your child to others of the same age and sex. The 50th percentile is the median (average). The 10th means 10% of children are smaller and 90% are bigger. There’s a wide healthy range — most children track along their own curve over time.

WHO vs CDC growth charts

WHO charts describe how children should grow under optimal conditions and are recommended internationally for under-2s. CDC charts are commonly used in the US for ages 2+. We also offer Down-syndrome (Zemel) charts for children with Down syndrome.

When to speak to a doctor

Single measurements matter less than the trend. If your child crosses several percentile lines up or down, or you’re worried about their growth or feeding, speak to your health visitor, GP or paediatrician.
