What is HbA1c?
HbA1c reflects your average blood sugar over the past 2–3 months by measuring how much glucose is attached to your red blood cells. It’s reported as a percentage (%) or in IFCC units (mmol/mol).
HbA1c categories
- Normal: below 5.7% (39 mmol/mol)
- Prediabetes: 5.7–6.4% (39–47 mmol/mol)
- Diabetes: 6.5% (48 mmol/mol) and above
How eAG is estimated
The estimated average glucose uses the ADAG study formula: eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 × HbA1c − 46.7. It puts your HbA1c into the same everyday units as a home glucose meter.
