What is BMR?
Your basal metabolic rate is the energy your body uses at complete rest to run essential functions — breathing, circulation, brain activity and keeping warm. It typically accounts for 60–70% of the calories you burn each day.
BMR vs TDEE
TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is your BMR multiplied by an activity factor — the calories you actually burn including movement and exercise. To maintain weight, eat around your TDEE; to lose, eat below it.
How BMR is calculated
We use the Mifflin–St Jeor equation, considered one of the most accurate for healthy adults: for men, 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age + 5; for women, the same but − 161.
